Jelmer van der Wees
“The power of progress lies in every step you take”
Core competencies: Renewable energy, heat transition, data analysis, systems
thinking
The energy transition is a complex challenge for which no perfect solution exists.
Jelmer is convinced that real steps are taken by collaboration across different
disciplines and levels.. The strength lies in bridging our differences and seeking
integrated solutions. Clear communication and strong analytical skills are essential
for this, qualities that Jelmer possesses.
During a long trip to Australia and New Zealand, Jelmer learned to dive and this has
inspired him to learn more about nature and about counteracting the negative effects
of climate change. He has seen it with his own eyes while diving on the Great Barrier
Reef, where coral bleaching caused by warming seawater is causing great damage.
This has motivated him to contribute to tackling climate problems and to deepen his
understanding of the energy transition.
To achieve this, Jelmer moved to Groningen to study biology. During his studies, he
developed strong analytical skills. These skills he then further put into practice during
his master's degree in energy & environmental sciences, where he delved in the ins
and outs of energy transition. Jelmer now applies this knowledge in his work for
Summit.
