Summit Engineering: together toward zero
Summit Engineering supports companies and governments with Energy Management and Sustainable Energy Projects. Together we work on reducing CO₂ emissions and on taking steps towards a CO₂ neutral world. A special mission that started for founders Robbert van der Pluijm and Arjan Hartemink at an altitude of 5895 meters.
The summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point of Africa. The hefty climb there gave Arjan and Robbert time to get their ducks in a row. They had already been toying with the idea of doing things completely differently. Before the establishment of Summit Engineering, they were both employed for years at Nederlandse Gasunie. Arjan worked as Technical Manager at subsidiary companies BBL Company and Gasunie Hydrogen Services. Robbert had the same role at EnergyStock, the underground gas storage facility at Veendam.
The final push
Plans to start a company together had been around for some time. The trip to Mount Kilimanjaro gave them the well-known “final push”. The journey to the top and back, has inspired them in many ways. Not only does the name of the company originate from it, the work activities are also related to it. The summit of Mount Kilimanjaro still has a large glacier, but it is becoming smaller every year due to global warming. Arjan and Robbert have been aware of this for a while, but when you are confronted so closely with global warming, you know that you have to do something. But they also know they can’t reach their goal alone. That’s why they focus on companies and governments. We support them with our knowledge and experience, offering concrete advice and project management.
Just like the path to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, this too will not be an easy journey. With the ascent in mind, Arjan and Robbert are sure that we are on the right track. Together with governments and companies we will start this wonderful journey towards zero!
